Severe pain in the...
by: ESTHER

Hello, I am a 29 y/o woman. I have been having this severe pain In my back for years now and im just so so very tired of everything hurting and keeping me up at night. In the mornings I awake to painfully numb and swollen hands. And repative motion of my arms (bathing my kids, washing dishes, cooking, folding laundry, just to name a few) becomes so painful on my back it brings me to tears!! My GP prescribes narcotics and sends me on my miserable way, im so tired of taking this dangerous drug. I was prescribed Noroton which seemed to help for a short while but I have to take more and more. (Current dose is 3 /300 mg capsules 3 times a day) and it no longer is affective for me. Im so lost and ready to know what is causing this!! PLEASE HELP!!

Hello Esther,
Please copy this into a new thread at one of neck or arm pain pages at Chiropractic-Help.com It's not relevant to Sean's problem.

And give me more details. Where is your back sore? What other treatment have you had other than medication. Have X-rays been taken? Has your arm and neck been examined? What were the findings?

I don't have enough information to give you a cogent reply.

Hi Dr. B,

Not sure if you remember me from the forum, but I wanted to thank you for your outstanding advice. I sought a good professional here in my area, who with only a few sessions, managed to heal my condition 100%. Meanwhile, I have also taken up specific yoga lessons, to ensure that I don't miss another biking season.

Thanks again for everything.
Sean

But of course, Motorcycle man! Didn't tell me what bike!

Marvellous news that Dr Jansen has helpend you so much. Send him a case of good German stein!

Dr B

PS. How you getting on with Clogs? When you're done pass it on to Dr Jansen. A short, honest comment for my website would be appreciated. Two or three sentences.

Doc found in Germany
by: Sean

Hi Dr. B,

Thanks again for your quick reply and positive news. After researching Chiros here in Germany, I found one in my area. A Dr. Gordon Jansen, studied at Palmer Palmer College in Iowa. Here is the link to the clinic: http://www.chiropraktik-wiesbaden.de/information-in-english.html (in English).

I wrote him an email to set up an appointment, and await his call.

I will keep you posted on the developments and how things turn out, and with a breeze of hope, maybe will be able to hit the French alps on two wheels this year yet :-)

I wish you a wonderful weekend, and will be in touch soonest.

Thanks again, Dr. B.

Sean

Hello Sean,
Palmer College is one of the best in the world. Still, make sure he's thorough... it's not an easy problem you have.

I hope you enjoy Stones in my Clog. Thank you for purchasing it.

Hopefully the Alps!

Dr B

PS. I might be beneficial to take him a print out of these emails. Or ask him to read it online. And of course the X-rays.

Many Thanks Dr. B
by: Sean

Hi Dr. B

Thanks so much for your confirmation of a pinched nerve. I just don't understand why the doctor at the hospital and the PT didn't diagnose this with everything in hand, nearly as well as you did just from written communication. That truly shows your experience and professionality. THANK YOU. BEEN AT IT FOR THIRTY YEARS, ON A DAILY BASIS, HAVE TO LEARN A FEW THINGS!

I will definitely forward you the copies of the XR, and will begin looking for a good, experienced chiropractor today! Too bad your not located in Europe. SEMI-RETIRED IN SA, IN MY GARDEN HALF THE DAY IS MUCH BETTER! STILL LOVE MY WORK AND SEE ABOUT 10 PATIENTS A DAY.

If all else fails, I would be make my way to see you when you are in Europe, though quite a long way out. I do have one final question; if I find a good experienced professional here in Europe, how long would you think it would take before I would begin to notice effective healing? I'M DEALING WITH A VERY SIMILAR CASE RIGHT NOW. HE HAS ABOUT 20% RELIEF AFTER THE FIRST 4 CONSULTATIONS, NECK MUCH BETTER BUT FINGERS STILL QUITE NUMB. ABOUT 6-8 WEEKS TO HEALING DEPENDING ON THE PRESENCE OF NUMBNESS AND WEAKNESS. HOW ARE THEY?

Thanks again for everything, Dr. B. You really helped to put my mind at ease, even under these circumstances. THINK ABOUT A TRACTION UNIT TOO, I THINK IT HELPS IN CONJUNCTION WITH CHIROPRACTIC THOUGH THE RESEARCH IS UNEQUIVOCAL THAT, ON ITS OWN, HAS LITTLE BENEFIT.

MY BERNARD PRESTON BOOKS ARE FULL OF STORIES LIKE YOURS.

LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GET ON.

Help in sight
by: Sean

CAPS BELOW

NICE BIKE, I DOUBT PART OF THE PROBLEM ONLY YOU HADN'T DONE IT FOR SOME TIME.

1.Which part of your arm tingles? into the thumb. ALMOST CERTAINLY THE C6 DERMATOME BUT CLASSICALLY NOT MUCH IN THE UPPER ARM, AND INCLUDES THE INDEX FINGER.

2.Does turning your head to the left and looking up cause pain in the neck? off. Looking down at the arm is the same feeling. CLASSIC SIGNS OF A PINCHED NERVE IN THE NECK. NOT GOOD THAT THAT MOVEMENT PRODUCES SYMPTOMS IN YOUR ARM AS WELL AS THE NECK.

3.Do you get relief from the tingling by placing your hand on your head, Yes, I do get relief by placing my left arm on top of my head. THIS IS CALLED THE SHOULDER ABDUCTION RELIEF SIGN. TYPE IT INTO THE SEARCH THIS SITE FACILLITY. CONFIRMS PINCHED NERVE.

4.Did anybody test the reflexes, search for numbness and test the strength of the muscles in your arm? I was tested for reflexes however, the doctor and the PT did not make any comments. PRICK YOUR ARMS RIGHT AND LEFT AND SEE IF THERE ARE DIFFERENCES IN THE AREAS MENTIONED ABOVE. IS THE LEFT ARM SHARPER OR NUMBER?

DO SOME PRESS UPS. DOES THE TRICEPS TIRE QUICKLY ON THE LEFT?

5.ill have it (probably) for the rest of your life. So you have four and a half months to get it fixed. This is the best news I have heard in over five weeks :-)

6.Stretch your right arm out The other way around causes stiffening of my left upper arm, tingling sensations in the upper arm and stabbing pain in the back of the left side of the neck. UPPER LIMB TENSION TEST IS POSTIVIE: PINCHED NERVE, MEDICALLY CALLED A BRACHIAL NEURALGIA.

I had been doing a few of the stretch exercises every day, and I can only say that it has maybe gotten about 5-10% better.

I really look forward to hearing from you.

YOU NEED TO FIND A CHIROPRACTOR, SEAN. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST PAINFUL CONDITIONS WE TREAT, SOMETIMES DIFFICULT, BUT USUALLY I WIN WITH IT. WITH A SKILLFUL EXPERIENCED CHIRO I GIVE YOU A 95% CHANCE OF GETTING OVER THIS, BUT I HAVEN'T SEEN THE X-RAYS. SEND ME COPIES WE YOU GET THEM.

CHIROPRACTIC IS NOT WELL REGULATED, CONTROLLED IN GERMANY. YOU MAY NEED TO GET ACROSS TO HOLLAND. TRY THE GERMAN CHIRO ASSOCIATION, AND DON'T LET ANYONE NOT PROPERLY QUALIFIED MESS WITH YOUR NECK. THE WRONG MANIPULATION CAN MAKE IT IMMEDIATELY SEVERELY WORSE. TAKE YOUR XR WITH YOU.

IF ALL ELSE FAILS, I'LL BE IN DORDRECHT, NL FOR A LOCUM AT THE END OF JUNE BUT THAT'S A LONG WAY OFF. FIND SOMEONE ASAP.

LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GO.
