When I get up from a lying down position, I have SEVERE pain in my left buttock. It hurts so bad that I cannot stand up. When I got up and moving this morning, the pain subsided somewhat, and I was able to walk around. When I came back home and sat for an extended period, then tried

to stand up, the symptoms returned.

Hello Edward,
Joint pain in general is often oddly worse in the morning; it swells during the night and, bingo, when you try to get up, it's very painful. So, there's nothing unusual about that.

What's good is that the pain is in the buttock, and doesn't extend to the leg. But be careful now, do some gentle lower back exercises, and don't do a lot of bending. I know it's hard, but try to sit less.

Use alternating ice and heat for pain relief rather than medication; it has no side effects.

If after a week, or if you start getting pain in the leg, then it's time to find a local chiropractor.

The body has amazing healing powers, but you do have to work with it so be sensible with lifting and bending, and even sitting, the back's greatest enemy.

Good luck, I hope you recover. Stop long enough for it to heal, otherwise next week it'll be back. Keep doing the exercises.
