Severe head and neck pain

severe head and neck pain

What is wrong with me? I can barely turn my neck, especially to move my head down or back. The back of my head feels like it is going to explode. Especially when I lift my head to get up in the morning. I have been to a Chiropractor five times. He has a really hard time adjusting my neck because I can not relax. Any suggestions?

Mm, nothing wrong with you, but obviously something wrong with your upper neck (most likely). It can cause very severe pain, and that's why you can't relax. Quite normal.

Obviously I have no idea what exactly is wrong, there are so many possibilities, and you havent' given me many details. Trauma, age, headache, facial pain, how long, fever, other treatment, previous episodes, X-ray... those are the kind of details that I'm sure your chiropractor asked, but I don't know.
My rule of thumb, for what it's worth: adjust in the direction that causes least pain. So, if it hurts turning mainly to the left, adjust towards the right.
As with all conditions, if severe pain is not improving, further investigation is necessary.
Meantime, use alternating cold hot therapy and ask a friend to gently massage your neck.
If your chiropractor is unable to adjust your neck, you might possibly look for a more experienced chiropractor. Adjusting the patient in severe pain is an art difficult to acquire.

Find a good chiropractor ...

I hope this contributes,
