pain and tingling in left shoulder and fingers

by Kathryn
(Southport UK)

I'm 79, female reasonably healthy and active. I do have arthritis and some problems with my spine according to Xrays. I went to my GP about 6 months ago and described the problem with my shoulder and arm and he said he didn't know what it could be!

Since then the pain has worsened and especially at night it is very painful all the way down my left shoulder upper and low arm, wrist and some fingers plus thumb. I would appreciate if you could please reply and also let me know of a suitable person I could go to in my area. Thank you so much.

This is my second submission. Unfortunately, I messed up the first. Sorry about that.

Hello Kathryn,
Congratulations on reaching a healthy and active nearly 80; it's an achievement and means you've done things right.

There's almost nobody, in fact I would say nobody, who does not have some wear and tear arthritis at your age; it's normal, though more advanced obviously if you've had car accidents and so on. Horses?

Does turning your head to the left, and then looking up, cause pain in the neck or tingling down your arm?

Using the search function at Chiropractic Help, find 'upper limb tension test'. You'll need someone to help; I suspect it will be much tighter or even painful in your left arm; then it's time to find a local chiropractor. Take your x-rays with you.

Let me know how you get on.
