Hello Mrs V,
Married to a Dutchman I take; ik ben ook een Nederlander!

But I'll write in English. I'm not sure whether your friendly chiropractor meant don't let a surgeon touch your back, or anybody including a chiropractor; if the latter I disagree, though Hippocrates' words of 'first, do no harm' ring in my ears, and probably yours too.

Are you doing any gentle lower back exercises? If not get started with them, every single morning before getting out of bed. You'll find them below. That's the place to start; gentle stuff that you do absolutely every day; they take only a minute or two.

There are more gentle methods of treating backs like yours today; I would agree that heavy manipulative treatment would not be appropriate.

That leg length discrepancy needs to be evaluated; it's a pity that an insert in or under your shoe was not considered years ago; it would have made a huge difference. Even now it would be helpful.

If you are also getting fibromyalgia, then you need to look to your diet as well. Using the site search function at Chiropractic Help, type in 'food and inflammation'.

No easy solutions I'm afraid; the swimming pool would be beneficial.
