Upper left thigh and groin. Also in left buttock.

Breathtaking pain in left groin mostly . Saw doc. Took xray. Said intense arthritis. Taking steroid pack and muscle relaxer. One week has gone by. NO relief. Very hard to walk. LOTS of pain. Makes me cry. Sleeping is difficult too.

When does this get better? Very intense pain.

Hello Jackie,
Did this start suddenly, or has it been coming on slowly over the months and years? If the latter, then I'm afraid it's a visit to an orthopaedic surgeon.

If it started really quite suddenly, then firstly whilst sitting take some oil on your thumb and run your finger from the ASIS, see the graphic, through the groin and down the inner thigh. Is it exquisitely painful? Do it few times.

Then lying on your back, several times a day, pull your knee to your chest, and make a circle, both ways.

You don't give your age; if older than sixty, you could have a crack in the femoral neck; it should have been seen on the x-ray but sometimes difficult.

If young, less than say twenty, then concern about avascular necrosis and other things. I'm not familiar with the term 'intense arthritis.'

My guess is a consultation with a specialist should be sooner rather than later.

Let me know what comes of it.
