Spasms in ankle

My ankles have spasms one and a half months after Sprain. Is this normal? I never originally went to doctor but did ice, heat, elevate, and wrap for over a week. And ideas why?

Hello Pat,
No, I'm not sure, but if the spasms are in both ankles, you use the plural, then it's definitely odd, and probably neurological. Spasms go along with increased reflexes and are associated with what's known as an upper motor neuron sign. You need to have the reflexes tested.

And generally, spasms are not a feature of a sprained ankle. The question is whether there is some underlying condition that caused your ankle to turn.

I think you should see your GP.
