middle to left back pain

From just a bit below my arm pit across my back is so painful I can hardly take a deep breath; have no cough or other affects but this is really painful. Feels like someone took a huge plank & smacked me with it.

Tylenol 3s are not touching the pain; maybe it's muscular? This has been going on for 2 weeks now, some days are really good; some days not.

Hello Ruth,
While there are a number of conditions that could be causing this, if you are a basically healthy person by far the most common cause is a subluxated rib head in the middle of the back; pain when taking a deep breath is the typical sign.

Should you have breast cancer, or are running a fever for example, that changes things.

If you are basically healthy, this is a condition that usually responds very quickly to the chiropractic adjustment; not always, but mostly.
