I sprained my foot last year after falling from stairs. I just let my ankle heal by itself without doing anything or checking to the doctor but now I notice whenever I walk its not the same as before; and it's harder for me now especially when I dance. I think my balance was affected by the incident as well as my hips too.
You are making an assumption in saying that your sprained your ankle; you may have broken one of the bones too.
There's only one way forwards; see someone experienced in treating ankles and feet; an x-ray will probably be necessary.
If it's making you limp then you certainly will be getting knock on pains in the hips and back too.
Do something; don't leave it otherwise you may in for a lifetime of pain.
