Tingling in right hand

by Michael
(long beach, Ca)

Hi, I played a lot of basketball one day and 2 days later I felt a pain in my upper back what people call your wings, on my back behind my arm pit. It lasted about 9 days. now for about a week my right hand has this tingling sensation when I sit or stand, it comes and goes. Now when the tingling in my hand come I feel this tightness in my upper chest near my shoulder like in between the two. when I lay down no problem I can sleep well. i tried to lift weights and notice my right arm was weak when i pushed i felt the pain in my back right wing again. Can you tell me if I over worked my muscle or damaged something?

Hello Michael,
It's good that sleep isn't disturbed: a true pinched nerve in the neck usually is very painful at night.

Do a little test: place your hand on your head. Does it increase or relieve the pain?

It certainly sounds like a strained shoulder muscle is part of the problem - a rhomboid or infraspinatus perhaps - but possibly a sprained rib joint as well, and that tingling and weak feeling in the arm needs to be evaluated.

As in all conditions: set a time limit, perhaps another two weeks and then ask yourself: am I getting better or not? If not, the sooner you get to see your local chiro the better. Don't let it become chronic. Don't take painkillers. They only confuse the issue, and don't contribute.

I hope this has contributed.
