Tingling in left hand, thumb, fingers, and arm. Now tip of tongue tingling.

Feels like my LEFT arm and hand are asleep. This is constant. It is more extreme when I wash my hands or touch my hair. Today, my tongue feels like I burned it eating hot pizza, tingling. Today is July 18 2011. All this started beginning of June with the very tip of my index finger feeling swollen but it wasnt. Over the next few weeks, the tingling started to include my thumb, then my middle finger, then my palm, then my wrist, then my forearm (thumb side) and today it seems to include the inside of my upper arm. All of this is regarding my LEFT arm and hand. For about a week, my wrist actually felt tight like I had a rubberband around it. There is no difference in temperature between the right or left hands. When I stretch out my left hand the palm feels really tight.
A few things occurred in the time frame just before my symptoms. I yanked a garden hose toward me and the metal nozzel whacked my arm really hard about 1 inch away from my wrist. This is what I initially thought caused all this. But I was also working overhead on a gazebo and I remember having a difficult time because my arms were up for a long time.
And finally, I was using insecticides and did not wear gloves or a mask. Also I spray myself with a mosquito repellent at least 2 times a week. I have been doing that for years in the summer, since mosquitos adore me. I was really concerned that I poisoned myself with the other insecticides but then I read your info about overhead work. The last time I did overhead work was early last month but my symptoms progressed as I stated.
I feel it is nerves and not circulation. I went to my chiropractor and he did not address by arm concerns and just adjusted my back and neck and jaw. I have another appt at which I will tell him we need to discuss my arm. I would love to hear from you. Thank you
Hello Andrea,
Step no. 1: Go out and buy a mosquito net, and get hubby if there is one, or papa to attach it to the ceiling. A far better solution to the mozzie problem.
Secondly, I have to say I am unsure. Stuff in your neck and the first rib is most unlikely to affect your tongue. I would advise a neurological consult at this stage.
The symptoms in your arm seem related to the carpal tunnel and the first rib in your neck. Only a careful examination will find exactly where the problem lies. Both respond well to chiro but only if he treats the lower arm and adjusts the first rib.
It's the tongue stuff that has me pondering. See a neurologist.
Kind regards,
Dr B
