Tingling in hands and feet.
I'm 17. Every now & then i get tingling in my hands & feet for about a week or 2 & then it'll go away. They tingle so much that i can't feel when i touch things. But a few weeks later it'll come back! Sometimes it goea to my face for a few minutes. It's weird.
I thought it was from smoking. But after quitinf for a month & it coming back after a few weeks. I assumed it wasn't from smoking.
So now i think it's anxiety. I get really stressed out now that i'm taking schlo sports && a job. I haven't told my parents to take me to a doctor yet cuz i'm afraid they won't believe my pain or think it's serious enough. What's your say on this?
Hello Angela,
Right, I doubt this has anything to do with smoking, but quit anyway. Smoking will knock at least ten years off your life, and the end is usually S-H-one-T!
You should tell your parents, and yes you certainly should see a doctor. Soon. At this stage I wouldn't recommend a chiropractor.
Your doctor will do some blood tests to begin with. Vitamin B12 deficiency for example can cause a serious peripheral neuropathy. Are you a vegetarian?
Thereafter, they will probably want to make a scan of your nervous system. Remember that every nerve is coated in fat, called a myelin sheath, and eating the correct fats is vital for nerve health. In particularly avoid trans fats (from hydrogenation of fat), and eat more fatty fish, olive oil and avocados.
There are 101 possible causes, Angela. What's needed in the first instance is the correct diagnosis of the tingling in your hands and feet and face. See your doctor.
Let me know in a month or two what they found.
I hope this contributes,
Dr B
