I had a L4 L5 discectomy 2 years ago and have had continued numbness and pain the entire time. In the last few weeks my pain, numbness and general pain has gotten worse to the point where I'm unable to sleep. Please let me know your thoughts on what I can do aside from another surgery.

Hello Melissa,
You certainly had a very large sequestered disc and it was not impacting on the nerves to your back so much as those to your legs.

This was taken I presume before the surgery; what's needed is another MRI to see whether the fragment of disc was satisfactorily removed. Have you been back to the surgeon? It's time.

Are you having any difficulty with your bladder?

Meantime, do gentle back exercises and go for short walks. No vacuum cleaner and be very careful with bending and lifting.

Then perhaps it's time for a visit to an experienced chiropractor.
