Sudden weakness in shoulders & arms

by Gayle
(Tennessee)

Should I go to my chiropractor or my MD? I am in great health, great blood pressure, great blood work annually. I have had two episodes of a sudden onset of weakness that runs across shoulders and then heaviness in arms. It only lasts a few minutes, but I feel unusual afterward for a few hours. I have degenerative disc disease in my neck area, and have just a little lower right back pain (feels like a catch)

Thank you!

It's difficult to give an answer, Gayle. We all have odd moments, and if they pass, generally aren't concerned.

However, I always say that some pain in the neck or back is not usually great cause for concern, but if it radiates to the limbs then it's better to do something.

Seeing these episodes lasted only a few minutes, I wouldn't be too concerned, but then I'm not there to test things like ranges of motion, and to check your reflexes and the strength of your shoulder muscles.

If you're concerned, I'd see someone, and certainly if it happens again.

Does turning your head to the right and left, and simulaneously looking up cause any symptoms in the arms or shoulders? Then you should certainly consult someone.

I hope this has contributed.
