spine pain radiating to ribs
by Linda
(Venice, Florida)
My spine hurts from the bottom of my skull to the top of my butt. It radiates to ribs bi-laterally. I have neck stiffness. A dull headache as well. The spine pain on a 1-10 scale using 10 as most painful I consider my pain an 8 or 9.
I had full cardiac workup in the ER. No one addressed my spinal pain. I was given an injection of Dilaudid in the ER ane most of the pain went away. Went to a spine specialist ane he diagnosed soft tissue inflammation. Gave me Roxicet, Naproxen, Flexiril. I am now out of meds and the pain as come back with a vengence.
I was in a car accident in January this year. The pain i have now started about 6 weeks ago. No one knows what's wrong. They are reluctant to give me any narcotic because of the pill mill problem in Florida. What is wrong with me and what can I do??
Hello Linda,
I don't know (of course) what's wrong with you, but it's not unreasonable to assume that these pains are related to the accident you had. It's possible however the accident has nothing to do with your pain.
Only a careful examination of your spine can determine whether that accident was the cause. Strange that the doctors went examining your heart when you had spinal pain from stem to stern. And all those drugs were treating only the symptoms, not the cause of your pain.
I suggest you start looking for an experienced and thorough chiropractor in your area. Talk to friends and family, and possibly your doctor. Have no X-rays been taken?
By the way, we always recommend everyone is examined after a MVA. Pain beginning some months or years later is the norm. We're not quite sure so many victims of whiplash have a few days of pain, then are fine for a period, and then the pain sets in just as you have experienced.
So, don't feel alone. What you are feeling is very common after an accident. Most like the nerve(s) that run between the ribs have been affected by the spinal subluxation, hence the radiation to the ribs. Do nothing and you will probably get Tietzes Syndrome. (use the Search this site function at C-H)
Perhaps start the "lower back exercises" at Chiropractic Help every morning before getting out of bed. They take less than two minutes.
Let me know how you get on in a month or two. I hope this has contributed.
