Pain in the left upper trapezius and tingling sensation in the left thumb on the dorsal surface

Hello,

I have a pain in my left upper trapezius that increases when I turn my head laterally. Additionally, when I sit with my left forearm positioned on a desk or table at a 90 degree angle my left thumb starts tingling on the dorsal surface. I have enjoyed lifting weights for decades. Can you please offer any explanation for these symptoms?

Thank you.

Hello,
Stretch your arm out to the side, palm forwards, and then extend the wrist. Tilt the head to the opposite side - what do you feel in the forearm? Compare with the other side.

Is that pain in the trap when you tilt your head to the same side (probably not muscular: a facet joint) or to the opposite side? The latter could well be muscular.

I would think that stretch your arm out on the desk in front of you is stretching out the brachial plexus of nerves in the neck. Does placing your hand on your head relieve the tingling/

Old injuries? Whiplash?

Avoid pull downs.

I recommend you consult a local chiropractor for a good exam. Perhaps take a printout of this with you.

I hope this has contributed.
