major pain in thumb
Thumb pain
I always think chiropractor before doctor. I've had tennis eblbow adjusted out. Anyway, my right thumb hurts terribly..can't use and even hurts when not in use. Primarily in the fatty part on palm.
I did have deep cut in that area a few weeks ago, but when pain 1st started, it was in both thumbs..now mostly right. In the past, I've also had aching in wrists and ankles adjusted out.
Possible to adjust major pain in thumb? Almost like a charlie-horse.
I've had this "cramp" in the past and has not lasted, but this is the worst and for over a week now. I can't write or hold glass or turn key in car. Please help..trying not to use it (day off)
Hard to describe better, as I'm really not using it today. Very sharp pain.
Thank You,
Allison
Hello Allison,
Marvellous that you think chiropractor before doctor, but this time I'd like you to think doctor first. We have to be sure that that deep cut didn't introduce infection, or seriously damage a nerve, or the muscle itself.
Thus, see your medical doctor tomorrow.
Are you unable to hold a glass, or turn a key because of weakness? Or is it because of pain? An important difference.
Next we need to think "arthritis". The thumb joint is number one on the arthritis list. Literally. Thus upping your fatty fish (or taking omega-3 salmon oil pills) and flax seed, and butternut soup may be on the cards. Look also at our "chicken bones" page for relief from arthritis.
Once your doctor has ruled out infection or a cut nerve, then I suggest you contact the chiropractor who has helped you in the past. Hope this has contributed.
Dr B.
