lower back pain on the left side upper left butt cheek and knee pain

Lower back pain

I had a baby on December 15 that was 9.3 pounds and has since gotten up to approx. 22 pounds. I am somtines unable to bend down and pick him upi because the lower left side of my back hurts so badly. Once I get up and start moving around it gets better but the pain never really goes away. My knees have also started hurting very badly since I had my son. I have trouble taking him for walks and a lot of trouble walking up and down stairs. I have been told (by friends) that it is something I will just have to get over and I am not willing to take that as an answer. Do you think a Chiroprator would be able to help with any of it?

Hello Mrs Gilchrist,
Congratulations on your child.

Absolutely, you have the sorts of symptoms that we treat on a daily basis. Nothing mysterious about it at all.

In the last trimester the body releases a hormone that relaxes the ligaments in the pelvis in preparation for the coming event. That, together with the heavy lifting of the little tyke, often means disabling lower back pain.

Your friends are quite wrong.

Make sure your chiropractor gives you some rehab exercises. You can also find some by typing "lower back exercises" into the Search this site facillity at C-H.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Dr B
