Loss of muscle control in right hand
Loss of muscle control in right hand
Here is my question. For the past several years
I have been losing my ability to write. When I hold a pen or pencil in my hand and begin writing with it, the muscles in my hand seem to want to tense up, which results in my hand always pulling down in jerky movements. If I focus intently on relaxing the muscles of my hand...it helps, but I'm not able to do that for more than a minute or so.
Hello,
This seems to be an intension tremor of sorts. I take it this only happens when you want to use your hand.
I think you should see a neurologist.
Dr B
I do not experience any real tingling or numbness in my hand or fingers and I have no pain associated with it. Although after trying to write for a couple of minutes, I do feel a vague burning-like sensation in my arm...sort of the feeling one gets after a good workout.
I have been to my family doctor who took some xrays of my neck and said that I had some very minor cervical stenosis. I went to a physical therapy session, but the therapist kept giving me advice to "ease the pain" even though I kept telling her I have no pain. I asked her if she'd ever heard of these symptoms presenting with spinal stenosis and she said that she had not. She did say that I have very tight muscles in my shoulders/neck/back and that she could feel slight muscle spasms when touching those areas.
A chiropractor did tell me many years ago that the tendon in my shoulder that goes through that little groove (the bicipital groove) slips in and out. You can feel that happening if you put your hand on my shoulder and I raise my arm from my side. You can feel a slight "catch" each time my arm raises.
I've tried writing with my left hand to see if I have a similiar problem and it doesn't seem that I have those symptoms in my left hand, although its hard to tell since I'm right-handed.
I don't seem to have any loss of strength in my right hand or arm and don't seem to have lost my ability to grip things.
It is very puzzling to me, but also alarming because it certainly isn't normal. I would welcome any suggestions as to what I should possibly be looking for as a cause. I'm hoping it's something as simple as needing to have deep muscle massages, but I'm worried that it's something more serious.
