left arm and index finger

C6 dermatome

C6 dermatome

My boyfriend does have a heart problem since he was born but recently his shoulder and neck started hurting and giving him a tingling sensation down to his index and thumb for a few days

then the pain went away and all that is left now is his index finger still is tingling and he has loss some feeling in it

its not cold but he says it feels like it should be cold like there is no blood to it what would cause this?

Hello,
I think most unlikely related to his heart condition, but obviously that should be kept in the back of the mind. But a neck and shoulder pain that radiates to the fingers suggests an irritated nerve in the neck.

It's highly likely that it's the C6 dermatome that is affected, one of the nerves emerging from the lower neck.

Type "inter scalene triangle" into the Search this Site at C-H. That is a common place where the nerves to the arm may also be irritated and give neck and shoulder pain and tingling in the fingers.

A cervical rib is an unlikely cause, but they do exist.

I don't believe in rushing off to the doctor or chiro for every new pain, but if it radiates to his arm, and it's not significantly better within, say a week, then a good examination is called for.

I hope this has contributed.
